Bulk Pea Loadings Up in May
WINNIPEG - Jul 6/16 - SNS -- The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) reports 160,500 metric tons (MT) field pea were loaded for export through licensed terminal and primary elevators which are required to report to it all grain movement in May.
The CGC data does not include exports in containers or from non-reporting terminals. It is important to recall that the CGC data may not match official export data. The CGC counts product when it is loaded to ships, while Statistics Canada bases its calculations on the bill of lading date.
This is clearly reflected in the fact that official export clearances for May total just 145,100 MT. Most of the difference between the two sets of numbers is that official exports to Bangladesh through the end of May total 262,573 MT; while the CGC reports 382,500 were loaded to ships for movement to the country, including 102,100 MT in May.
The CGC reports exports are down 19% from the 198,600 MT shipped the same month last year but up 25% from the 128,600 MT loaded for export the previous month.
