OTTAWA - Sep 16/24 - SNS -- Statistics Canada modestly trimmed total pulse and specialty crop output from its August forecast, with increases in the estimated pea output offset by declines in lentils.
Based on satellite and agro-climatic data, Statistics Canada left production forecasts for other pulses and specialty crops largely unchanged from August. The final production estimate is due on December 5 and will be based on a survey of growers.
Total output of peas, lentils, beans, chickpeas, canaryseed, mustard and sunflower seed is now forecast at 6.432 million metric tons (MT), down from 6.465 million August but well above the 4.945 million produced last year. Combined output is just below the previous five year average of 6.478 million MT.
PANAMA - Sep 16/24 - SNS -- Exports of field peas from France posted massive declines, sinking versus the previous month in July, the most recent data from Eurostat shows.
Total exports in the month reached 5,226 metric tons (MT), down 82% from the previous month's total of 29,206. So far movement has totalled 117,263 MT, up from 99,621 during the previous calendar year.
The most important buyer throughout the month was United Kingdom, buying 4,456 MT. Switzerland was the second most important destination receiving 766 MT, followed by New Caledonia at 3 MT.
