MADISON - Oct 1/15 - SNS -- The USDA published its latest review of dairy market conditions in Australia and New Zealand today.
OCEANIA OVERVIEW: Australia milk production is moving towards the seasonal peak. Milk production for the season is slightly up on last year, however month to date for September is very slightly behind last year. Spring is continuing to be dry in some key dairy areas which is causing some concern. The cold, wet weather in New Zealand has not been conducive to forage growth. This has decreased production. Coupled with the low farmgate level pricing, this has led to an increase in cow culling. The milk production forecast is predicted to be lower than last year. New Zealand's August milk production, as reported by DCANZ, was 1.379 million MT, up slightly from August 2014. August milk solids reflect a small decrease compared with August 2014. 0930C Tara.Herbst@ams.usda.gov 608.557.7007 USDA/AMS/Dairy Market News, Madison, Wisconsin Dairy Market News website: http://www.ams.usda.gov/market-news/dairy Dairy Market News database portal: http://www.marketnews.usda.gov/mnp/da-home
