WASHINGTON - Sep 13/18 - SNS -- Final production of potatoes from all seasons in 2017 totaled 442 million cwt (100 pound units), a slight increase from 2016, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates.
Area harvested is estimated at 1.02 million acres, up 1% from a year earlier. The average yield, at 431 cwt per acre, is down 2 cwt from 2016.
Production of 2017 fall potatoes is finalized at 401 million cwt, down 1% from the 2016 crop. Area harvested, at 902 thousand acres, is down 1% from 2016. The average yield, at 444 cwt per acre, is down 3 cwt from 2016.
