MELBOURNE - Sep 30/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure will bring a period of unsettled weather as it moves across western and southern parts of the state today and northeastern parts on Thursday. From later Thursday and during Friday, the trough is expected to weaken and a high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extend a ridge across towards southeastern Queensland. Conditions are then forecast to warm on the weekend as the ridge remains across the state and another trough gradually approaches from the west. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA few showers or rain at times across much of the eastern half, more frequent about the southern and central ranges and western slopes. The chance of thunderstorms across the northern inland. Dry in the far northeast and far northwest. Daytime temperatures above average, particularly in the far west. Northeast to northwesterly winds, shifting southwesterly in the far west. Surf conditions may be more powerful than they appear and are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing and swimming.Thursday 1 OctoberA few showers and the chance of thunderstorms across eastern districts, more frequent on the ranges, contracting to the northeast in the afternoon. Thunderstorms most likely in the northeast during the afternoon. Daytime temperatures slightly above average. West to northwesterly winds, fresh at times in the east ahead of a southerly change spreading through the west and south during the day. Surf conditions may be more powerful than they appear and are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing and swimming.Friday 2 OctoberDry and mostly sunny. Daytime temperatures above average, most notably across the southwest and southeast. North to northeast winds, freshening along the coast in the afternoon.Saturday 3 OctoberDry and mostly sunny. Daytime temperatures above average, tending well above average in the west and southeast.
