Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 30/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge across the state. The ridge will strengthen along the east coast later this week as the high drifts east across the Tasman Sea. A trough extends across the southwest of the state, moving slowly east across the south of the state before weakening on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA slight to medium chance of showers and the chance of a thunderstorm in the southern interior east of Charleville, increasing to a medium to high chance about the southeastern Maranoa and Warrego District and southwestern Darling Downs. Areas of patchy light rain possible about the Granite Belt for a time in the evening. Mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate east to northeasterly. Winds light to moderate southeast to southwesterly behind a trough extending to central and western parts of the southern interior.Thursday 1 OctoberA slight to medium chance of showers and the chance of a thunderstorm in the southeast. A slight chance of showers about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Winds light to moderate east to northeasterly about eastern districts, tending light to moderate southeast to southwesterly about western and southern interior regions. Though fresh at times during the morning about the far west, and fresh northwesterly about the southern interior. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average.Fire Danger -  Very High for the Peninsula and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders.Friday 2 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the east coast. The trough is expected to weaken considerably and dissipate during the day, broadening the east coast ridge across the state. A slight to medium chance of showers about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average.Saturday 3 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge over the state. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average.Sunday 4 OctoberThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum and minimum temperatures near or above average, especially about the interior.Monday until WednesdayThe high will remain near northern New Zealand, maintaining a ridge along the east coast. A trough approaching the from Central Australia, will linger near southwest during Tuesday and Wednesday, with associated high level cloud tending to build across far western regions over this period. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast, increasing to a medium to high chance about the North Tropical Coast. A slight chance of a shower about the far southwest later Tuesday and on Wednesday. Mostly sunny elsewhere.
