MELBOURNE - Oct 5/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weakening high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is maintaining a ridge towards northeast New South Wales, while another high over the Bight extends a ridge south of New South Wales. Between these two systems, a slow-moving cold front and trough lie over the far west, bringing cooler conditions and some rain to the southern and western districts. On Wednesday, this trough will deepen over inland New South Wales and then shift southeast on Thursday, bringing unsettled weather to most areas. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain areas and the chance of an early thunderstorm in the southeast, mainly about the ranges. A few showers elsewhere across the western and southern inland. The chance of a shower or two about the central east. Dry and mostly sunny in the north, apart from some patchy morning fog about coastal districts. Daytime temperatures above average across the northern inland, and below average elsewhere, most notably in the southeast. Northerly winds in the northeast, and southerly winds in the south and west.Wednesday 7 OctoberAreas of rain across the west and south, possible extending to central districts during the afternoon or evening and more persistent across the southern inland. Dry and mostly sunny in the northeast. Daytime temperatures below average across the south and west, tending a little above average across the northern inland. Southeast to northeasterly winds, possibly becoming fresh about parts of the inland during the afternoon.Thursday 8 OctoberA few showers and the chance of thunderstorms across most areas, except the far northeast. Showers more frequent about the southern and central ranges and adjacent western slopes. Daytime temperatures a little below average. Northeast to northwesterly winds becoming fresh and gusty westerly across the west and south. Fresh to strong northeasterly seabreezes along the northern coast.Friday 9 OctoberA few showers about the southern Alps and adjacent western slopes, falling as snow above 1700 metres. The chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the far northeast. Dry and mostly sunny elsewhere. Daytime temperatures above average in the northeast, and below average elsewhere.
