Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 5/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough will remain slow moving over northeastern Victoria today as a high pressure system south of WA extends a ridge across Tasmania. The high is forecast to cross Tasmania and move over the Tasman Sea early on Wednesday, with the trough deepening into a low over northern Victoria on Wednesday night. The low is forecast to track south over Bass Strait and Tasmania during Thursday as a high moves over South Australia before a weak cold front crosses Victoria on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers in the east with isolated showers and drizzle extending to most districts during the afternoon although staying dry in the west. Snow showers across the Alpine peaks during the morning. A cool and mostly cloudy day with moderate south to southeasterly winds. Mild and mostly sunny in the northwest.Fire Danger -  Low to Moderate.Wednesday 7 OctoberEarly fog and frost patches inland. Mostly cloudy with scattered showers increasing from the north during the day and tending to areas of rain during the afternoon and evening with isolated thunderstorms. Some moderate to heavy falls possible. A cool to mild day with light to moderate east to southeasterly winds.Thursday 8 OctoberScattered showers tending to widespread rain across central and eastern districts. Showers becoming isolated in the northwest during the afternoon. The chance of a thunderstorm across the north and east during the day. Some locally heavy falls. Snow falling above 1700 metres late in the day. Light to moderate east to northeasterly winds, fresh in the south and variable across the west. Winds becoming moderate to fresh west to northwesterlies during the day. A cool to mild and mostly cloudy day, warm in the far southeast.Friday 9 OctoberScattered showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to the east in the evening. Snow falling above 1500 metres. A cloudy morning, becoming partly cloudy during the afternoon and mostly sunny in the west. A mild to warm day with light to moderate westerly winds, fresh to locally strong in the south during the morning.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Tuesday.Product IDV10310
