WASHINGTON - Jan 25/24 - SNS -- Utilized production in 2023 totaled 271 million pounds, down 6% from 2022, according to the USDA.
Bearing acreage was estimated at 441,000, down slightly from the previous year. The average yield was 616 pounds per acre, down 36 pounds from the previous year. In 2023, the value of the crop totaled $460 million, down 12% from the previous season with an average annual price of $1.69 per pound.
Improved variety pecan production, at 258 million pounds, decreased 8% from the previous year. Improved variety pecans accounted for 95% of the United States total pecan production. Native and seedling variety production totaled 13.8 million pounds, up 76% from 2022.
New Mexico had the highest utilized production (in-shell basis) at 100 million pounds, followed by Georgia at 88.3 million pounds (in-shell basis).
