Chickpeas Maintain Tone
PANAMA - Jun 7/24 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week's trading on a firm note, helped by continued strength in desi type chickpea markets.
During the week, Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) projected that this year's harvest could ewach 1.1 million metric tons (MT) from 730,000 hectares.
In releasing the forecast for the country's 2024 harvest, ABARES reduced last year's estimated harvest from 531,000 to 491,200 MT, resulting in a significant tightening in available supplies until new crop product becomes available during the closing quarter of the calendar year.
