WASHINGTON - Jun 28/24- SNS -- Area planted to potatoes in 2024 is 941,000 acres, down 2% from 2023, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2024.
Area expected to be harvested is 937,200 acres, down 2% from the previous year.
In Idaho, planted acres is down 5,000 acres from the previous year. Planting was ahead of last year and potatoes are emerging on schedule with 86% of the crop emerged as of June 16. In Washington, planting and emergence were ahead of last year.
Beginning in 2024, estimates for potato type were discontinued.
