WASHINGTON - Aug 12/24 - SNS -- U.S. rice production is forecast at 221 million cwt (100 pounds), up 1% from 2023, according to the latest USDA crop production report.
Acreage updates were made based on a thorough review of all available data. Planted area is now estimated at 2.94 million acres, down slightly from the previous estimate but up 2% from the previous year.
Area for harvest is expected to total 2.90 million acres, down slightly from the previous forecast but up 1% from last year.
Based on conditions as of August 1, the average United States yield is forecast at 7,623 pounds per acre, down 26 pounds per acre from 2023. Arkansas and Mississippi are forecasted to have an increase in production from the previous year.
