Lentils Nervous Over Canada

PANAMA - Aug 16/24 - SNS -- Lentils finished the week's trading on a nervous note as market participants tried to guage the potential impact of a rail shut down in Canada.

The two national railways announced they will lock out roughly 9,300 workers at 12:01 AM on August 22 if they can reach a negotiated settlement with the unions or enter binding arbitration.

The fact the shut down is occuring during harvest means that delivery opportunities for farmers could be compromised, resulting in problems storing freshly harvested crops depending on the length of the shut down and how rapidly available space is consumed.
