PANAMA - Aug 23/24 - SNS -- Global chickpea markets were firmer in relatively light trading activity during the past week, with both kabuli and desi types registering moderate price gains in export markets.
Mexico continues to maintain high asking prices for large caliber kabuli chickpeas in a refection of tight inventory levels relative to prospective export demand.
Interest in chickpeas from Mexico and other origins is being helpd by the fact India has emerged as a net importer of chickpeas during the first half of the 2024 calendar year on strong demand for desi types and limited exportable surpluses of all classes of chickpeas.
