PANAMA - Aug 23/24 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets closed out the week on a slightly firmer note against advances in prices offered Canadian growers for brown and oriental.
The upper range of bids for those classes advanced 5% during the week to CDN 31 cents per pound for farmer's drssed product delivered western Canadian processing plants. Yellow bid ramnges were unchanged on the week, topping out at 43 cents per pound.
Harvest progress in Canada remains well behind last year and recent averages for the crop. As of August 19, 17% was in the bin, compared to 34% last yar and the recent five year average of 27%. Progress in the United States is also unusually slow, with Montana reporting 14% of its crop was in the bin at the start of the week, down from 48% last year and the recent average of 24%.
