Mixed Week In Lentils

PANAMA - Aug 23/24 - SNS -- North American lentil markets closed the week's trading on a mixed note, with green lentils from Canada easing while reds were steady.

Price activity reflects the fact that new crop supplies of lentils are more readily available. Values for greens had been expected to ease because of a solid increase in plantings in North America.

Area in the United States jumped from 546,000 to 947,000 acres, with the potential for production to advance from 260,000 to 401,000 metric tons (MT). Canadian green lentil plantings advanced from 1.32 to 1.62 million acres.
