Mixed Week In Lentils
PANAMA - Aug 30/24 - SNS -- Lentil markets were little changed on the week despite what was viewed as a relatively large preliminary production estimate from Statistics Canada.
Output of all classes of lentils was pegged at 2.77 million metric tons (MT) from 4.21 million acres, compared to 1.8 million from 3.67 million acres last year.
Though markets expect Statistics Canada's second model based estimate due on September 16 may provide a more accurate picture of yields, many will pay more attention to provincial yeild estimates because those are grower based. Statistics Canada's only grower based production estimates are now contained in December's final production numbers.
