Modest Decline In Special Crop Output

OTTAWA - Sep 16/24 - SNS -- Statistics Canada modestly trimmed total pulse and specialty crop output from its August forecast, with increases in the estimated pea output offset by declines in lentils.

Based on satellite and agro-climatic data, Statistics Canada left production forecasts for other pulses and specialty crops largely unchanged from August. The final production estimate is due on December 5 and will be based on a survey of growers.

Total output of peas, lentils, beans, chickpeas, canaryseed, mustard and sunflower seed is now forecast at 6.432 million metric tons (MT), down from 6.465 million August but well above the 4.945 million produced last year. Combined output is just below the previous five year average of 6.478 million MT.
