DELHI - Sep 25/25 - SNS -- India's Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare says total foodgrain production across the country's 2023-24 production cycle ended up at a record 332.298 million metric tons (MT).
In releasing its final production estimates for last season, the agriculture department said the increase occurred despite "drought-like conditions in southern states, including Maharashtra, and a prolonged dry spell during August especially in Rajasthan. The moisture stress from the drought also affected the Rabi season. This mainly impacted production of pulses, coarse cereals, soybean and cotton."
Total Rice production during 2023-24 is estimated at record 137.825 million MT, compared to 135.755 million the previous season.
Wheat production during 2023-24 is estimated at record 113.292 million MT, up from the previous year's 110.554 million. Production of Shree Anna is estimated at 17.572 million MT as compared to 17.321 million during previous year.
Production of all pulses was pegged at 24.25 million MT, including 6.97 million MT from the kharif season, 15.2 million MT of rabi season output and 2.08 million MT from India's summer harvest. Last year's total harvest was 26.06 million MT, down from the record 27.3 million grown in 2022-23.
