PANAMA - Nov 1/24 - SNS -- International chickpea markets posted a mixed performance during the past week with kabuli holding steady while desi weakened in the face of harvest selling pressure.
Kabulis continue to be supported by tight stocks in Mexico and reports of below average sizing in this year's harvests in for some northern hemisphere net exporting countries.
By contrast, export markets for desi chickpeas are facing harvest selling pressure from Australia farmers. Some market participants seem surprised by the eagerness of some Australian to sell at a time when the country expects production to more than double from last year's 491,200 metric tons (MT) harvest.
