Canaryseed Growers Reluctant Sellers

PANAMA - Nov 1/24 - SNS - Birdseed ingredient markets finished the week little changed despite modest advances in prices farmers are seeing for both canary and sunflower seed.

Canadian canaryseed growers have become more patient sellers now that their harvests are complete and attention has switched to completing any fall work.

Some market participants think the final crop report of the year could see a moderate increase in seeded area for the crop. Data collected by the Canadian Grain Commission from provincial crop insurance agencies reveals that 75% of the crop was insured, compared to 71% last year and the five year rolling average of 71%.
