Peas Hold Relatively Steady
PANAMA - Dec 6/24 - SNS -- Global field pea markets were not surprised by Statistics Canada's final production estimates for 2024, which left the Canadian pea harvest virtually unchanged.
Based on a direct survey of growers, production was pegged at just under 3.0 million metric tons (MT), up from last year's 2.6 million MT result and below provincial suggestions output could reach 3.13 million.
The final number is below Statistics Canada's September forecast, with the result supply fundamentals are slightly tighter than initial expectations that the available supply would expand from 3.29 to 3.64 million MT. They are now estimated at 3.47 million.
