Modest Hike In Cotton Output

WASHINGTON - Dec 10/25 - SNS -- Production of all classes of cotton in the United States is now expected to total 14.3 million 480-pound bales, up less than 1% from the previous forecast and up 18% from 2023, according to the USDA.

Based on conditions as of December 1, yields are expected to average 792 pounds per harvested acre, up 3 pounds from the previous forecast but down 107 pounds from 2023.

Upland harvested area for the Nation is expected to total 8.44 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 34% from last year. Expected Pima harvested area at 192,000 acres is unchanged from the previous estimate but up 39% from last year. Upland cotton production is forecast at 13.8 million 480-pound bales, up less than 1% from the previous forecast and up 17% from 2023.

Pima cotton production is forecast at 498,000 bales, up 4% from the previous forecast and up 58% from 2023. If realized, a record high production and yield is forecast for Missouri.

Ginnings totaled 9,677,550 running bales prior to December 1, up from 8,384,050 running bales ginned prior to the same date last year
