PANAMA - Dec 13/24 - SNS -- Yellow pea markets finished the week's trading on a hopeful note because of media reports the Indian government is considering an extension to the duty free import period.
The reports are based on comments from "unnamed government sources", who suggest it is hoped additional imports would help moderate stubborn food price inflation.
In November, the consumer inflation index for pulses edged 0.5 points lower from October to a preliminary estimate of 216.2 for an annual inflation rate 5.41%. The index in rural areas for pulses was pegged at 214.5 for 5.72% annual inflation and at 219.4 in urban areas for 4.83% annual inflation.
