Corn Silage Production Fell In 2024

WASHINGTON - Jan 10/25 - SNS -- Corn silage production was estimated at 123 million tons for 2024, down 5% from the 2023 estimate, according to the USDA's final production estimates for 2024.

The United States silage yield was estimated at 20.2 tons per acre, up 0.1 ton from 2023. Record high silage yields were estimated in Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Missouri.

Area harvested for silage was estimated at 6.10 million acres, down 6% from the 2023 estimate. Record low acres harvested for silage were estimated in Alabama, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. Record high acres harvested for silage were estimated in Nevada.
