WASHINGTON - Jan 10/25 - SNS -- Durum wheat production for 2024 was estimated at 80.1 million bushels, up 36% from the 2023 total of 58.7 million bushels in comparable States, according to the USDA's final production estimates for 2024.
Area harvested for grain totaled 2.04 million acres, up 28% from 2023 in comparable States. The United States yield was estimated at 39.3 bushels per acre, up 2.5 bushels from the 2023 yield in comparable States. North Dakota yield was a record high in 2024.
Compared with last year, production in Montana and North Dakota, the largest Durum wheat-producing States, was down 5% in Montana but up 61% in North Dakota. Harvest was 98% complete in Montana and 77% complete in North Dakota by September 8.
Beginning in 2024, estimates for Durum wheat were discontinued in Idaho.
