PANAMA - Jan 10/25 - SNS - North American birdseed ingredient markets were unchanged to firmer following the release of the USDA's final production estimates for 2024.
Markets were not surprised by the numbers, though the USDA reported record low production levels for both safflower and sunflower.
Output of oil type sunflower collapsed from roughly 890,500 metric tons (MT) in 2023 to a record low 429,600 MT; while confection type production sank from 133,600 to just over 90,000 MT, the third lowest harvest on record.
