PANAMA - Nov 8/24 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their recent firm tone against tightening stocks in Canada and other origins.
Bulk movement of peas from Canada was relatively strong during the opening quarter of the country's 2024-25 marketing campaign, reflecting good movement to the Indian subcontinent and other destinations.
Markets are not expecting major changes in Canada's final production estimates in December, given the fact that provincial yield estimates closely match those from Statistics Canada in September. In a sense, provincial estimates are survey based, whereas the federal data is based on satellite and agroclimatic data.
PANAMA - Nov 8/24 - SNS -- Lentil markets were somewhat pleased with India's first production estimate for its 2024-25 kharif harvest, but worried about prospects for a lengthy shut down of container operations in Canadian ports.
Total pulse output from this year's kharif season crop is expected to reach 6.954 million metric tons (MT), similar to last year's 6.974 million but below the previous five year average of 8.097 million MT.
For lentil exporters, the most important kharif season pulse is tur or pigeon pea. Output was estimated at 3.502 million MT, up from 3.417 million last year but below the five year average of 3.811 million MT.
